FAQs

What does HVAC stand for?

HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning. J. Scott Service Company is a HVAC Contractor who can sell, install, repair and service Residential and Commercial Heating and Air Conditioning equipment.

Should I replace a working heating or air conditioning system?

Although your present furnace or air conditioning may be working, if it uses R22 refrigerant and is 10 years old or more, you should consider replacing it with a new high efficiency system that uses R410A refrigerant. A new system could save 30 to 50 percent on energy costs.

What is SEER?

SEER is the abbreviation for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rate, The higher the SEER number the more efficient the air conditioning system. All air conditioners sold in the United States must be a 14 SEER or higher.

What is EER?

EER is short for Energy Efficiency Ratio and does not take into consideration the time of year, but rather the systems energy efficiency at the peak operating use. Both ratings should be considered in choosing air conditioners.

HOW DID THE CLEAN AIR ACT IMPACT HVAC SYSTEMS?

The R22 refrigerant that was widely used for many decades has been replaced with R410A refrigerant because of its ozone friendly properties.

SHOULD I CLOSE REGISTER VENTS OR DOORS TO CONSERVE AIR CONDITIONING IN UNUSED ROOMS OF MY HOME OR OFFICE?

By closing vents and doors, it will make your air conditioning system work harder by turning on and off more frequently. Air Conditioning systems are designed to cool and /or heat a certain number of square feet. When register vents or doors are closed, it disrupts the flow of air and can cause the air conditioning system to run inefficiently.

IF I WANT TO HIDE MY OUTSIDE UNIT, HOW CLOSE CAN I PLANT SHRUBS?

According to air conditioning manufacturers, 18 inches will allow enough ventilation room for the unit to function properly.

People Talking About J. Scott Services

"J. Scott Service Company has gone far beyond making a service call and helping a veteran in need. J. Scott Service Company answered a “NO AIR” service call. After checking the A/C system it was determined the unit needed to be replaced.

During conversation with homeowner, technician found the customer to be 86 years old and a retired Navy Pilot. Plus, he had recently gone thru surgery for cancer and was due a second surgery in less than thirty days. Our retired United States Vet stated he could not afford a new A/C system and he would have to put it off until another time.

Putting it off was not acceptable to J. Scott Service Company. Four days later J. Scott Service Company returned to the home and installed a new Carrier air conditioning system at no cost to the homeowner.

The owner’s son of J. Scott Service Company is also a retired veteran. He set up an account to help cover some of the cost at gofundme.com. J, Scott Service Company was able to offset some of the expense for air conditioning unit and donated all labor and installation cost.

This is the kind of appreciation that all our retired veterans should be receiving. It is so refreshing to hear about the good in people. God bless our veterans and J. Scott Service Company."
